With a big party at its main factory in Torbole Casaglia (Brescia), Automazioni Industriali CAPITANIO Srl (AIC), a company that is represented by ONEMET and active in the fields of switchgear 
construction, automation and mechatronics or robotic solutions for the steel industry, celebrated its 50th anniversary on October 24, 2025. In addition to employees from the various AIC Group locations, numerous guests from AIC customers and partners from all over the world (amongst them ONEMET CEO Gerhard Richter and his wife Sabine) were invited to this event. They enjoyed a fantastic program and had a wonderful time. Huge thanks go to the entire Capitanio family, especially to AIC CEO Marco Capitanio, his wife Milena and his father Dino, as well as to all AIC employees who were involved in organizing and executing this party. Congratulations on an incredible event!  
In its so far 50 years of existence, AIC has not only become one of the most competent and flexible providers of electrical systems and customized automation solutions for the steel industry (AIC is also authorized system partner of ROCKWELL, SIEMENS and ABB), but has also developed innovative mechatronic and robotic solutions which elevate various production processes to a new level (such as the TrimBot for the automatic sampling of steel wire coils, a robot for the automatic labeling of steel bar bundles or wire rod coils, or an automatic stacking system for rolled steel bar, flat steel or profiles). This portfolio also includes high-performance tying machines for steel bar, tube and section bundles, manufactured by ATS Mechatronics Srl, a company based in Trasaghis (Udine), that has been part of the AIC Group since 2019 and is, like the parent company AIC, also represented by ONEMET. 
 
Under the new motto „Crafting Evolution“, the AIC Group continues its expansion. This year, AIC became the sole owner of the German company KERN Industrie-Automation GmbH (KIA), that also offers electrical systems and automation solutions, but also possesses special expertise in safety technology for process lines e. g. for strip processing. AIC acquired KIA after initially cooperating with the company and then acquiring a first portion of shares. 
 
In addition to the main plants of AIC and ATS in Italy as well as to the KIA plant in Germany, the AIC Group also has its own subsidiaries in the Czech Republic, the USA, Brazil, India and China. ONEMET represents AIC in Southern Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Slovenia.

Mit einer großen Party im Hauptwerk Torbole Casaglia (Brescia) feierte das von ONEMET vertretene, in den Bereichen Schaltschrankbau, Automatisierung und Mechatronik- bzw. Robotik-Lösungen für die Stahlindustrie tätige Unternehmen Automazioni Industriali CAPITANIO Srl (AIC) am 24. Oktober 2025 sein 50-jähriges Bestehen. Zu diesem Event waren neben den Mitarbeitern der verschiedenen Standorte der AIC-Gruppe auch zahlreiche Gäste von AIC-Kunden und -Partnern aus aller Welt geladen (darunter auch der CEO von ONEMET, Gerhard Richter mit Gattin Sabine), denen ein großartiges Programm geboten wurde und die sich prächtig unterhielten. Der gesamten Familie Capitanio, allen voran dem AIC-CEO Marco Capitanio, seiner Frau Milena und seinem Vater Dino, sowie all jenen Mitarbeitern von AIC, welche an der Vorbereitung und Durchführung dieser Party beteiligt waren, gebührt riesengroßer Dank. Glückwunsch zu einer fantastischen Veranstaltung! 
In den bisher 50 Jahren ihres Bestehens hat sich AIC nicht nur zu einem der kompetentesten und flexibelsten Anbieter von Elektroanlagen und maßgeschneiderten Automationslösungen für die Stahlindustrie gemausert (AIC ist auch autorisierter Systempartner von ROCKWELL, SIEMENS und ABB), sondern hat auch innovative mechatronische und Robotiklösungen entwickelt, mit denen verschiedene Produktionsprozesse auf ein neues Level angehoben werden können (wie z. B. den TrimBot zur automatischen Probennahme von Walzdraht-Coils, einem Roboter zur automatischen Etikettierung von Stabstahl-Bunden oder Draht-Coils oder einem automatischen Stapelsystem für gewalzte Stabstähle, Flachstähle oder Profile. Zu diesem Portfolio gehören auch die Hochleistungs-Bindemaschinen für Stabstahl-, Rohr- und Profilbunde, welche von der in Trasaghis (Udine) beheimateten und seit 2019 zur AIC-Gruppe gehörenden Firma ATS Mechatronics Srl, die so wie AIC selbst auch von ONEMET vertreten wird, hergestellt werden. 
 
Unter dem neuen Motto „Crafting Evolution“ ist die AIC-Gruppe weiter am Expandieren. So ist AIC seit heuer alleiniger Eigentümer der deutschen KERN Industrie-Automation GmbH (KIA), welche ebenfalls Elektroanlagen und Automationslösungen anbietet, aber auch über besondere Kompetenzen in der Sicherheitstechnik für Prozesslinien wie z. B. Bandanlagen verfügt, übernommen, 
nachdem AIC zunächst mit KIA kooperierte und dann erste Anteile an diesem Unternehmen erworben hat. 
 
Neben den Hauptwerken von AIC und ATS in Italien sowie dem KIA-Werk in Deutschland, verfügt die AIC-Gruppe auch über eigene Standorte in Tschechien, den USA, Brasilien, Indien und China. ONEMET vertritt AIC in Süddeutschland, Österreich, der Schweiz und Slowenien.

Dank ihrer weltweiten Präsenz mit dem Stammwerk Automazioni Industriali CAPITANIO (AIC) in Norditalien (Nähe Brescia) und Niederlassungen in den USA, Brasilien, Indien sowie (nach dem kürzlichen Erwerb der Mehrheitsanteile an der KERN Industrie-Automation GmbH) auch in Deutschland und Tschechien) gelang es der AIC-Gruppe, mehrere interessante Aufträge an Land zu ziehen. Wesentliche Gründe für diese Erfolge sind dabei die umfassende Erfahrung von AIC im Revamping und Upgrading bestehender Stahlwerksanlagen (insbesondere im Langprodukt-Bereich) und die vor allem in den letzten Jahren von AIC entwickelten Mechatronik-Lösungen (speziell nach dem Erwerb der Firma ATS Mechatronics).     Für dieses Projekt, bei dem bestehende Scheren durch neue ersetzt, sowie der komplette Auslaufteil mit Rollgängen, Kühlbett usw. modernisiert wird, liefert AIC neue Antriebsmodule, moderne Sicherheitstechnik und die kompletten Automatisierungs- und Steuerungssysteme.
  • Revamping der Vorgerüst-Antriebe der Profilstraße bei GERDAU Whitby, Ontario, Kanada:
  • Neben neuen Antrieben für die Walzgerüste und anschließende Rollgänge liefert AIC auch die erforderlichen SPS- und HMI-Komponenten und führt deren Integration in das bestehende Automations- und Steuersystem durch.

Thanks to their world-wide presence, with their parent plant Automazioni Industriali CAPITANIO (AIC) in Northern Italy (near Brescia) and subsidiaries in the USA, India, as well as (after the recent acquisition of the majority shares of KERN Industrie-Automation GmbH) also in Germany and the Czech Republic the AIC group has received several interesting orders. The main reasons for this success are AIC’s comprehensive experience in the revamping and upgrading of existing steel mill facilities (especially in the long product sector) and the mechatronic solutions developed by AIC in the last years (especially after the acquisition of the company ATS Mechatronics). Furthermore, AIC is solution partner of SIEMENS, recognized system integrator of ROCKWELL Automation and service partner of ABB.

Highlights of the orders received by AIC are as follows:


  • Modernization and Upgrade of a bar mill in Iowa, USA:
    Apart of new DC drives for the rolling stands and shears, as well as new AC drives for the other equipment, AIC’s scope of supply also comprises improvements of the safety features and a state-of-the-art automation.
  • Upgrade of the automation and control system at ACINDAR Fenicsa, Argentina:
    For this project that comprises the replacement of existing shears by new ones, as well as the modernization of the complete exit area with its roller tables, cooling bed, etc., AIC supplies new drive modules, state-of-the-art safety solutions, as well as the compled automation and control systems.
  • Revamping of the drives for the roughing stands oft he section mill at GERDAU Whitby, Ontario, Kanada:
    Besides new drives for the rolling stands and the connecting roller tables, AIC also supplies the necessary PLC and HMI components and takes care of their integration into the existing automation and control system.
